Plans & Billing

Free, Pro, and Cloud plans — features, limits, and subscription management.

Nitesong offers three pricing tiers so you can start writing songs for free and scale up when you need more tools, collaboration, or audio uploads. This guide explains what each plan includes and how to manage your subscription.

Here is a side-by-side comparison of everything included in each tier.

Free Plan

$0/month — no credit card required.

The Free plan is designed to let you experience the core songwriting tools without any commitment. You get full access to the notation editors and several sidebar tools, with limits on how many songs you can create.

What's included

  • Up to 3 songs. Each song can have unlimited sections and elements, so there is no limit on how detailed a single song can be.
  • All five notation types. Lyrics, chords (with the full voicing library), guitar tab, drum sequencer, and piano roll.
  • Metronome. Synced to your song's BPM with tap tempo.
  • Tuner. Reference tone playback for each guitar string.
  • Scale keyboard. A playable two-octave piano that highlights your song's scale.
  • Notes tool. A scratchpad for each song that saves automatically.
  • Personal project. Every account comes with a Personal project where your songs live by default.

What's not included

  • No additional projects. You cannot create new projects beyond the Personal project.
  • No audio uploads. MP3 and WAV uploads are not available.
  • No collaborators. You cannot invite other users to your songs.
  • No chat. The real-time messaging pane in the sidebar is locked.
  • No Circle of Fifths. The interactive key exploration tool requires a paid plan.
  • No Fretboard. The scale fretboard visualization requires a paid plan.

When you try to use a feature that is not included in your plan, you will see an upgrade prompt explaining what is available on higher tiers.

Pro Plan

$9/month — the plan for serious songwriters and collaborators.

Pro removes the song limit, unlocks collaboration, and gives you access to every sidebar tool. If you write regularly or work with other musicians, this is where you want to be.

What's included

Everything in Free, plus:

  • Unlimited songs. Write as many songs as you want.
  • Up to 10 projects. Organize songs into albums, EPs, or any grouping you like. Each project gets its own cover art, tracklist, notes, and kanban board.
  • 1 MP3 upload per song. Attach a demo recording, reference track, or rough mix directly to the song.
  • Collaborators. Invite other Nitesong users to your songs as editors. Collaborators added to a project automatically get access to every song in that project.
  • Chat. Real-time messaging in the song sidebar with @mention support for collaborators, sections, and elements.
  • Circle of Fifths. An interactive tool for exploring keys, modes, relative majors/minors, and modulations.
  • Fretboard. A vertical guitar fretboard that highlights your song's scale notes across all positions.

Audio upload limits

Pro allows 1 MP3 per song (up to 25 MB per file). WAV uploads are not available on Pro. If you need more audio capacity, the Cloud plan offers significantly higher limits.

Cloud Plan

$14/month — the full suite for production-minded musicians.

Cloud gives you everything in Pro with expanded audio uploads and unlimited projects. If you record demos, track multiple takes, or manage a large catalog of songs and projects, Cloud has you covered.

What's included

Everything in Pro, plus:

  • 10 MP3 uploads per song. Attach multiple takes, stems, or mixes to each song.
  • 5 WAV uploads per song. Upload lossless audio alongside your MP3s for higher fidelity reference tracks.
  • Unlimited projects. No cap on how many projects you can create.

Audio upload limits

Cloud supports up to 10 MP3 and 5 WAV files per song (up to 25 MB per file). The audio player in the song header lets you switch between uploaded files so you can compare takes or listen to different versions without leaving the editor.

Managing Your Subscription

All billing management happens on the Billing page.

Viewing your current plan

When you visit the Billing page, you will see:

  • Your current plan name highlighted among the three plan cards.
  • If you are on a paid plan, the active-until date showing when your current billing period ends.

Upgrading your plan

To upgrade from Free to Pro, Free to Cloud, or Pro to Cloud:

  1. Go to the Billing page.
  2. Click the "Upgrade to Pro" or "Upgrade to Cloud" button on the plan card you want.
  3. You will be taken to a secure checkout page where you can enter your payment details.
  4. After completing checkout, you are redirected back to the Billing page with a confirmation message, and your new plan is active immediately.

If you have a discount code, you can apply it during checkout.

Managing or canceling your subscription

If you are on a paid plan, a "Manage subscription" button appears below the plan cards. Clicking it opens a subscription management portal where you can:

  • Change your plan (upgrade or downgrade).
  • Update your payment method (card details, billing address).
  • Cancel your subscription. If you cancel, your paid features remain active until the end of your current billing period. After that, your account reverts to the Free plan.

What happens when your subscription ends

If your subscription expires or is canceled:

  • Your plan reverts to Free.
  • Songs beyond the 3-song limit are not deleted. You can still view and edit existing songs, but you cannot create new ones until you are back within the limit or re-subscribe.
  • Projects beyond the Free limit remain accessible but you cannot create new ones.
  • Uploaded audio files remain attached to your songs. You just cannot upload new ones.
  • Collaboration access on existing songs is preserved, but you cannot invite new collaborators.

Tips

  • Start on Free to try things out. Three songs is enough to explore every notation type and sidebar tool (minus the two Pro-locked ones). Upgrade when you are ready.
  • Pro is great for bands. If you are writing with other people, the collaboration and chat features on Pro make it easy to stay on the same page.
  • Cloud is for heavy uploaders. If you record demos or want lossless WAV files attached to your songs, Cloud's generous audio limits are worth the extra $5/month.
  • You won't lose anything if you downgrade. Your songs, projects, collaborators, and audio files all stay put. You just cannot create new ones beyond the Free limits until you re-subscribe.
